Red Monday turned out to be a damp squib as Liverpool and Manchester United cancelled each other out at Anfield.
It was billed as the biggest game of the season so far but neither side produced their best football during a scrappy 90 minutes.
A black cat ran across the pitch in the warm-up and the Liverpool faithful were left to rue their bad luck as David De Gea clawed out the best two chances.
After the break, Emre Can managed to get a daisy cutter away inside a packed penalty box but De Gea expertly pushed it away before the Spaniard tipped Philippe Coutinho’s long-range effort wide.
Roberto Firmino could have won it late on when he was put clean through in the final 10 minutes but Antonio Valencia recovered expertly to clear the ball.
The draw does little for either team in the league table – Liverpool stay fourth while United remain seventh.
