An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates Court on Monday ordered that a 63-year-old man, Akin Aderiye, be remanded in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti over alleged defilement.
The police charged the suspect, who claimed to be a prophet and whose address was not provided to the court, with defilement.
The Chief Magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, did not take the plea of Aderiye for want in jurisdiction.
The magistrate advised the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
He adjourned the case until March 21 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that Aderiye committed the offence on February 10 in Esure-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Akinwale alleged that the suspect sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl.
He said the minor told the police that the suspect lured the minor to his house on the pretence that he was going to give her some money.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 31 of the Child Right Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre pending legal.
