Court restraints ABU from appointing new registrar

The National Industrial Court in Kano on Thursday restrained the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, from appointing a substantive registrar until the determination of the case of the former registrar, Dr. Isa Abbas.
Abbas had challenged his removal and urged the court to restrain the university from appointing another registrar pending the determination of the case.
He also prayed the court to stop the institution from any act capable of prejudicing his chances of being reinstated.
The counsel to the defendant, Zubaida Mohmoud, had also filed a counter motion, urging the court to allow the university to appoint a new registrar so that the institution’s operations would not be crippled.
Ruling on the motion, Justice Lawal Mani, restrained the institution from appointing a new registrar or confirming the appointment of any registrar, pending the determination of the suit.
Mani ordered the university to comply with the ruling by maintaining the status quo until the determination of the case.
He adjourned the case to March 12 for hearing of the substantive suit.
The plaintiff’s counsel, Abdurauf Atiku, who spoke to newsmen after the adjournment, commended the court’s ruling, while the defence counsel declined comment.
