An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State on Monday remanded three men -Abdulsalam Hassan, 30; Ola Benedict, 33; and Edwin Ote, 33 – for alleged attempt to defraud the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.
The accused persons were alleged to have unlawfully presented themselves as officers of the office of the National Security Adviser with intent to defraud Fayose.
hey were also alleged to have unlawfully forged the letter head paper of the “Nigeria Armed Forces” on which they wrote the letter they presented to the governor.
The accused persons were charged with impersonation, conspiracy, attempt to defraud and obtaining under false pretence in contravention of Sections 509 of the Criminal Code Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti state, 2012.
The Chief Magistrate, Idowu Ayenimo, remanded the accused persons in prison custody pending an outcome of advice from the office of the state Director of Public Prosecution.
The Police Prosecutor, Bankole Olasunkanmi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 9 in Afao-Ekiti.
Olasunkanmi said he had sent the case file to the office of the DPP for legal advice.
He said he brought the accused persons to the court to secure their lawful detention pending the outcome of the legal advice.
Consequently, the pleas of the accused persons were not taken.
Counsel to the accused persons, Sunday Ochai, urged the court to adjourn the case pending the outcome of the DPP legal advice.
Ayenimo adjourned the case till Februart 5 for further hearing.
