An Abuja Federal High Court on Wednesday ordered that its judgment be served on the Nigerian Bar Association to sanction a lawyer, Sunday Ameh (SAN), for professional misconduct.
The judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, said Ameh should also be disciplined by the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee and Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee for the same offence.
Ademola frowned at the “frivolous applications and tactics to delay the hearing of the case of a Rep-elect, Christian Abah, and the Peoples Democratic Party, for which Ameh was the counsel.
The judge also ordered the three defendants – the PDP, Independent National Electoral Commission and Abah to pay N450,000 as cost to the plaintiff, Hassan Saleh.
The judge said INEC and PDP, by their conduct in the suit, promoted “the culture of impunity” by failing to disqualify Abah from participating in the election, abinitio.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the judge made the orders while delivering judgment in a case in which he nullified the victory of Ameh’s client, Christian Abah, as Rep-elect.
Abah was confirmed by the court to have entered the House of Representatives race with a forged diploma and did same in 2011 when he ran for the Benue State House of Assembly.
