A Senate Panel on Wednesday threatened to invoke a warrant of arrest on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, if he fails to appear before it by next week Tuesday.
The Panel is investigating Idris over allegations of abuse of virement and corruption.
Addressing newsmen, the Chairman of the panel, Senator Francis Alimikhena, said the panel received a letter from the IGP’s lawyer, Alex Iziyon, claiming that the matter is already in court and his client could not appear before the committee.
The chairman however said the committee has started the investigation before the IGP rushed to court to stop the investigation of the panel.
It will be recalled that Senator Isah Misau had accused Idris of falsification of retirement date, adding that Police boss breached the law of service by impregnating a female police officer, and marrying her secretly in Kaduna State.
Meanwhile, a court on Wednesday directed the Senate Panel to discontinue the investigation of Idris.
