The Athletic Federation of Nigeria on Thursday said it would focus on selecting athletes with potential to win medals at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
This was contained in a statement signed by Omatseye Nesiama, the AFN Technical Director, and made available to newsmen in Lagos.
“We are going to focus on medal potential athletes in our process of team selection,” Nesiama said.
Nesiama said that the federation had set standards for the athletes to meet in order to be part of the team.
“The standards set are for athletes to qualify for inclusion into the last phase of selection for the Commonwealth Games team,” he said.
Athletes are currently in camp in Abuja in preparation for the Games scheduled to hold from July 23 to August 3 in Scotland.
