The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Anthony Ogbizi, to, with immediate effect, take over investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of a player of Remo Stars Football Club, Tiamiyu Kazeem, in Sagamu, Ogun State on February 22, 2020.
The IGP gave the order on Monday while reviewing daily reports of major crime incidents across the country, a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba, said.
The statement added that Adamu, while commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased, called for calm and assured that justice will be done in the matter.
He vowed that any person found culpable will be brought to book.
Reports had it that the SARS operative pushed Kazeem out of a moving vehicle.
An oncoming vehicle then crushed him to death.
The policeman has since been apprehended by the Zone 2 Police Command, which covers Lagos and Ogun States.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Command, Ahmed Iliyasu, ordered the arrest of the policeman.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2 Command, DSP Hauwa Idris-Adamu, made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Lagos.
Iliyasu ordered the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Kenneth Ebrimson, to conduct full scale investigation into the case.
