Director who plagiarised Obama’s speech not yet sacked – Presidency

The Presidency has denied media reports that it had sacked a Director in its employ for plagiarising a portion of a speech read by President Muhammadu Buhari at the launch of the “Change Begins With Me” campaign.
The portion of the speech has been discovered to have been lifted from a speech by President Barack Obama of the United States of America.
But shortly after the Presidency issued a statement that a query had been issued to the Director, news emerged that he or she had been sacked.
But the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu told The Eagle Online that the Director had not been sacked.
Shehu said there are procedures in he clvil service for disciplinary measures.
He said despite the acceptance of guilt by the Director, he must still be given room to reply the query already issued to him.
He said: “The minimum time given for response to a query in the civil service is at least 24 hours.
“In some cases, 72 hours cab be given.
“There are cases where you can even give one week.””
“So inasmuch as the Director has accepted responsibility, we must give him the room to respond to the query.”
