President Muhammadu Buhari has told the Senate that no action can be taken against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, to warrant his being removed from office.
The position of the President was contained in a letter to the Senate on Tuesday.
The letter was read at plenary by the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
The Senate had indicted Lawal for the award of a contract to a firm in which he was alleged to have interest.
The contract was for N230 million for the clearing of what was termed “bush” in Yobe State.
However, the Yobe State Government said it was not aware of the contract or the site.
Based on this, the Senate demanded the removal of Lawal from office.
Lawal, however, described the allegation as witch hunting, saying he had divested his interest in the company months before assuming office as SGF.
