The Nigerian Army has condemned the recent Amnesty International reports, which accused the military Joint Task Force of gross human rights violations in its operational approach in dealing with the emergent wave of terror unleashed in some parts of the North by members of the Boko Haram sect.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, in a media chat on Tuesday in Abuja, said that the methodology used by human rights group is faulty.
Ihejirika, who was represented by the Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Maj-Gen Bitrus Kwaji, described the report as unbalanced and highly subjective in favour of the aspirations of Boko Haram.
He said that the military was never contacted or consulted while the rights group was gathering information and conducting interviews with members of the sect from which the report was written.
The rights group, in a report released on Thursday, said the JTF has extra judicially executed, detained without trial or charge and forced the disappearance of hundreds of people accused of links to the Boko Haram sect.
