At last, Festus Odimegwu resigns

The Chairman of the National Population Commission, Eze Festus Odimegwu, has resigned his appointment.
Odimegwu’s resignation was confirmed by a statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
The statement, signed by Sam Nwaobasi, said the resignation, which has been accepted by President Goodluck Jonathan, was with effect from October 17.
It said Dr. Sam Ahaiwe, the Commissioner representing Abia State in the Commission, will act as chairman pending the appointment of a substantive Chairman.
Odimegwu has been at loggerheads with the Kano State Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, over the outcome of past census figures.
Odimegwu had criticized the census figures, which was believed to be lopsided in favour of the North.
Shekarau did not like the comment and advised Odimegwu to rather improve on upcoming head counts rather than criticize what his predecessors had done.
The face-off led to a query to Odimegwu from Anyim.
