The Builders and Construction Skilled Artisans Association of Nigeria says it will partner the Nigerian Society of Engineers to eliminate quacks and curb incidences of collapse buildings.
Alhaji Fasasi Mohammed-Jamiu, the National President of BACSAAN made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Monday.
He said the partnership was to ensure that standards were not compromised in the construction sector by ensuring that quality materials and qualified professionals were engaged for construction work.
Mohammed-Jamiu said the partnership would avail members of the association the powers to speak out when given substandard materials to work with in the construction sites.
According to him, artisans are the direct users of materials in the construction sector and if enlightened and encouraged, they will insist on the use of standard materials.
The BACSAAN president said the association was formed to bring artisans together and enlighten them on the need to curb corrupt practices leading to building collapses.
He said: “We formed this association to improve the welfare of artisans in Nigeria and to stop the increasing level of corruption going on in the construction sector.
“We have better understanding of materials used in the construction sector.
“We will take advantage of our partnership with NSE to ensure that substandard materials are not used in construction sites in the country.”
He said BACSAAN had inaugurated branches in all states of the federation and the FCT, adding that the idea was to ensure that all artisans in the country were carried along.
