The report by The Eagle Online that a former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde, who was declared wanted by the Senate on Thursday would be inducted on Friday at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru near Jos, Plateau State has been confirmed.
Lamorde was inducted alongside other participants as a member of the Senior Executive Course Number 38 of NIPSS.
However, Lamorde refused to speak to the press on the development in the Senate.
The Senate had earlier in the week declared Lamorde wanted.
This followed a report to plenary by the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, headed by Senator Sam Anyanwu, that Lamorde had refused to honours its invitation to respond to an allegation that he converted over N1 trillion retrieved from suspects to personal use.
The bulk of the money was said to have been retrieved from a former Inspector General of Police, Tafa Balogun, and the late Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
Based on this, the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions requested for permission to declare Lamorde wanted.
The request was granted by the Senate.
There had been reports that Lamorde had fled the country after his replacement with Ibrahim Magu as the head of the anti-corruption agency.
However, sources close to The Eagle Online confirmed sighting Lamorde at NIPSS earlier in the week.
He was eventually inducted on Friday as part of Course 38 of the Institute.
When approached by the Nigerian Tribune for comment, he retorted: “I have been instructed not to talk.”
He was said to have quickly walked away after this.
Before then, Lamorde was seen exchanging banters and taking pictures with other course participants.
The course is for 11 months, after which he is expected to get double promotion to the rank of a Commissioner of Police, having been on the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police for longer than he should be owing to his service in the EFCC.
