The acting chairman of the Caretaker/Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Abubakar Sani Bello has denied receiving any transfer of authority letter from the embattled chairman of the committee Gov Mai Mala Buni.
Sani Bello, who reacted to a letter purportedly written by Buni transferring power of the office of the National Chairman of the party to him, told newsmen after the caretaker committee meeting said he has not seen the letter.
The letter duly by Buni dated February 28th, 2022, circulating on social media is titled “Transmission of the office of National Chairman, CECPC”.
It reads: “This is to please inform you that I will be embarking on a medical trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from today, 28th February 2022. I will resume office upon my discharge from the hospital.
“In my absence, I hereby transmit the functions of my office as the National Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) to you.
“This is to enable the Committee to conclude all arrangements reading to the National Convention slated for March 26th, 2022 and other duties that may be required of the office.
“I invite all members to cooperate with Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, by extending to him all the support that I have enjoyed from you. Please do accept, the assurances of my best regards.”
When asked about the letter, Sani Bello simply said: “I haven’t seen it.”
On the news making round that a new Secretary has been appointed for the caretaker committee to replace Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, the acting chairman dismissed the report, maintaining that the issue has not been discussed.
Asked when that will be done he said: “Probably, but it has not been discussed yet.”
Reaffirming the March 26 national convention is sacrosanct, the acting chairman said the party “has sent the letter’ to inform the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of their intention to hold the national convention.
