APC chieftain calls for dissolution of Ekiti executive

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, Olusegun Osinkolu, has declared that the party would have to change its leadership in Ekiti State for it to have a good outing in the 2015 general election.
Osinkolu, who spoke with journalists in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, said the present interim body, chaired by Chief Jide Awe, has done well, but would have to be overhauled for the party to have a good outing in the next elections.
He said: “There should be restructuring across board.
“The party cannot afford to approach the next elections with the same strategy, so the leadership must be changed.
“I am quite happy because our congress will be coming soon and I am confident that it will throw up credible people that can bring radical change to the party.
“The Awe-led executive could not do much in terms of administration because both the party leadership and government were fused into one.
“APC must learn how to separate the two because it will make things difficult for party members, especially those who have problems with people in government, who ordinarily ought to run to the party to seek redress.
“Mistakes have been made but those mistakes as things stand today are not beyond repairs.”
Osinkolu, who has declared his intention for the Senate seat in the forthcoming elections to represent Ekiti North Senatorial District, also insisted the party is still a formidable force that can confront the Peoples Democratic Party despite the loss suffered by Governor Kayode Fayemi in the June 21 governorship poll.
Osinkolu described the 15 years of PDP reign in the country as a colossal waste, saying the party must strive hard to keep afloat despite its tyranny in order to play the critical role of opposition that can give the ruling party a run for its money.
He also pointed out that the Ekiti State governorship election was more of an eye opener to the party on the need to entrench internal democracy and refrain from imposition.
He said: “I still owe the believe that APC is popular in Ekiti and we have to prove that in the next general elections.
“Our people have not rejected APC in Ekiti and the South West.
“The Osun election had confirmed this.
“But Fayemi lost because of his style of government, which our people believed is too elitist.
“In actual fact, we have to give it to all the APC governors, particularly in South West, in terms of performances.
“They have tried to raise the bar of governance and things are beginning to look up.
“So, Fayemi did not lose because of non-performance and this still makes APC to stand out to be able to approach the electorate for votes.”
