Anambra governorship: We have delivered on our mandate – Kalu

Former Governor of Abia State and All Progressives Congress chieftain, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has said the assignment given to the APC South East Zonal Committee for the Anambra State 2017 governorship election, headed by the former Governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, has been delivered.
Kalu said with this, there was no need for the involvement of the committee in the next stage of the preparation for the election by the APC.
Kalu, who functions as the Vice Chairman of the committee, also revealed the committee concluded its job two weeks ago.
Kalu, who made the disclosure in London, was responding to questions from a group of Anambra State indigenes who accosted him at the launching of “Igbo Community House London” on Saturday.
The Anambra State indigenes, who requested for briefing on the forthcoming governorship election, queried Kalu’s presence in London while the primaries for the aspirants was near.
They stressed that Kalu, being a prominent member of the APC South East Committee and with capacity to help the party win the election was expected to be around during the primaries.
In his response, Kalu said the committee was saddled with many responsibilities but not inclusive of the primary election.
He said: “The national leadership of the party gave us an assignment and we have delivered.
“The report of our work was submitted about two weeks ago.
“If our job was to include conducting the primaries, I would have done the needful and wouldn’t be here.
“But presently, we are looking forward to a free and fair primary by the party.”
The former governor also said the party has all it takes to win the November 18 election.
He added that the committee members by the virtue of the job they have done are convinced that any candidate that emerges will be magnanimous in victory.
When pressed to predict who might clinch the ticket, the business mogul said he is neither an aspirant nor a delegate to the primary, but he is sure the best candidate for the party will emerge.
