In-form Nigerian forward, Sone Aluko, has warned the Premier League that Hull City are a side to be reckoned with following their first away win of the season at Newcastle United.
Aluko, who stunned The Magpies with 14 minutes from time, believes City have delivered a clear message with their display at Saint James Park.
“We always believed we could get points away from home and now other teams will see we’re a side to be reckoned with,” said Aluko.
“If teams don’t turn up against us, we can go anywhere and get a result away from home. Teams should know now that we’re not a team that’s going to be relegated just because we’ve come up. We will compete in this league.
“We showed a lot of character to come back into the game twice. We could have been overawed when we went behind with 50,000 fans behind them.
“The manager said at half-time if we really wanted to win, we had to keep believing in ourselves. We were confident and we got our reward.”
For Aluko in particular, it was a day to cherish.
Opening his Premier League account in spectacular style with a sweet volley from the edge of the box, he was City’s match-winner to stun St James’ Park.
“I didn’t want to lash it in but controlled it and sort of passed it in and then it hit the post. It took an eternity to go in,” he said.
“It is up there with my best. I’ve scored some good ones, and I always say I want to score more tap-ins but it’s up there, it’s a big goal, the first Premier League goal and one I won’t forget for a long time.”
