The Governor of Adamawa State, Senator Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, on Monday urged the Nigeria Customs Service to intensify security for the safety of border communities in the state.
Bindow made the call on Monday while receiving the newly posted Customs Area Controller in charge of Adamawa and Taraba States, Emmanuel Edede, who paid him a courtesy call at the Government House in Yola.
The governor stressed the need to integrate border communities, ensuring that they equally have sense of belonging.
He noted that some communities in the state were located at the extreme borders between the state and the Republic of Cameroon.
He said: “We have some communities who are at the extreme borders with the Republic of Cameroon, though they are Nigerians and not Cameroonians.
“Let us provide more security cover for them and properly integrate them for them to have a sense of belonging.
“To us, we will continue to support the NCS under your command and we will intensify our partnership with you.
“Do not hesitate in assisting us in those areas that you feel you can be of help to us and on our own part, we will support you in earnest.”
Earlier, Edede had said he was in the Government House to introduce himself to the governor.
Edede, who was accompanied by senior officers of the Adamawa State Command of the NCS, pledged his loyalty to Bindow.
He gave an assurance that the governor would witness a robust cooperation under his leadership.
