The Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Prof. Simeon Bamire, has charged new students in the institution to be diligent in their studies and shun cultism and other social vices.
He gave the charge during the matriculation of new students for the 2023/2024 academic session at the OAU Amphitheatre on Friday.
Banire said that the students were selected from over 40,000 candidates that applied and sat for the institution’s Post-Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The vice-chancellor also commended the Federal Government for making provision for student loans to ease their financial constraints as well as alumni, stakeholders, groups and individuals for their support.

While congratulating the new students, Bamire admonished them to face their studies squarely and work against anything that could disrupt the smooth academic session of the institution.
The vice-chancellor also encouraged the new students to balance their academics with culture and good character, for “charity begins at home”.
He said that OAU has zero tolerance for examination malpractices, cultism, sexual harassment, and all other forms of social vices.
Bamire counselled: “Whenever you are facing any challenges on campus, try to channel your grievances through the appropriate quarters for a way out.
“This institution has a standard ICT and Research centre for your education.
“Strive to utilise the opportunity for the betterment of your future.”
The vice-chancellor pledged that the institution’s management would do all within its capacity to ensure their safety and guarantee their outstanding success.
