The Ekiti State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has said that it has found it imperative to expose the hypocrisy and flagrant violation of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, over the constitution of the Local Government Caretaker Committees in the four-year of the existence of the All Progressives Congress-led government.
The party, in a statement signed by its state Chairman, Chief Idowu Faleye, disclosed that throughout the four-year administration of the immediate past APC government, the state House of Assembly could not boast of having knowledge of the caretaker committee, which they pretended to have approved, when in actual sense it did not pass through the House.
Faleye said: “In most of the time that the Caretaker Committee were constituted most members of the Assembly who were expected to be part of the process that will lead to the nominations of members of the committee only became aware of it by the time the inauguration would be taken place which means that most of the time we were only been deceived by the Fayemi government that the House of Assembly had approved the constitution of the Local Government Caretaker Committee then.
“We have many friends among those who served as Chairman and members of the Committee who confessed that at no time was their name taken to the State House of Assembly for approval or otherwise, so Fayemi and his collaborators in the legislative arm of government were all this way been engaging in mother of all deception over the constitution of the Caretaker Committee.”
Faleye stressed that the APC members of the state House of Assembly knew abinitio that Local Government Caretaker Committee members could be constituted by the governor without any qualms and it was why they treated ex-governor Fayemi that way and later came on air to say that the House had approved it.
He explained that Governor Ayo Fayose is only trying to follow the due process of carrying along the House this time around so as to enable good working relationship and move Ekiti State forward.
He said it is however sad and disappointing that the APC legislators in the House have turned themselves into a cog in the will of progress of the state by their inordinate grandstanding.
He said: “As a party which is determined to eradicate poverty and hunger in Ekiti State, we advise the Governor to go ahead and constitute the Local Government Committee Chairmen and members because we can not allow the third tier of government to remain paralyzed because of selfish political reasons and stupidity of some politicians who par adventure think that the position they hold today should be used to destroy the state instead of building it.”
The Ekiti State House of Assembly was equally warned against bringing down the state to its kneels with their refusal to pass the commissioners nominees sent to it by the Fayose.
He said that members of the state Assembly are toying with the progress and development of Ekiti State by their refusal to screen the commissioner nominees for the government to be able to work smoothly.
The PDP boss noted that the action of the lawmakers is not the kind that should be expected from responsible and patriotic indigenes of Ekitiland, calling on them to retrace their steps before ordinary people on the street who voted for good governance and responsive legislation begin to stone them on the street.
Faleye explained that there is a limit to which the masses could tolerate such a parochial and egocentric mentality such as the one being displayed by the Assembly members presently, adding that it will not be a child’s play by the time they march on the House to demand for the right legislative attitudes towards the progress of the state.
He advised the lawmakers to see themselves as Ekiti State stakeholders who should be seen to be interested in the betterment of the state first in their political carriers for them to be able to enjoy the good of the land as laid down by God.
Faleye wondered that the same members of the Assembly who passed the list of caretaker committee for the 16 local government in November 2010 even when the matter was been argued in court could now adduce judicial reasons for its deliberate refusal to pass the one sent to it by Fayose.
According to him, the Assembly that is known to be a House that can pass any bill and motions during the immediate pass administration have become a place where nothing can pass through without heavy bribe.
