Two feared killed as supporters of Al-Makura, Maku clash

No fewer than two persons were feared killed on Thursday at Tudun Gwandara in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, following a clash between Eggon and Gwandara youths over the impeachment proceedings against the state Governor, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
The Eagle Online gathered that the Kwandere youths stormed a house belonging to an Eggon man and set it on fire.
His car was also burnt.
The house was said to have the governorship posters of the Minister of Information and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Labaran Maku, on its wall.
Al-Makura belongs to the All Progressives Congress.
The cause of the clash was not known as at press time.
It was gathered that the impeachment move against Al-makura did not go down well with the Kwandere youths, hence they resorted to violent attacks.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Ismaila Numaan, confirmed the development.
Numaan said the house was burnt in the early hours of Thursday but could not confirm who was responsible.
He said that security personnel have been drafted to restore peace in the area, warning that the police will deal with any person or group of persons caught taking the laws laws into their hands.
Burnt commercial tricycles littered the area.
Shops and other business premises hurriedly closed for fear of being looted.
It was also gathered that some of the youths who dressed in black without any foot wear chased their rivals, apparently the Gwanderas, away from the area as they stormed the place in their numbers.
A police patrol van, which first arrived the scene, quickly withdrew following the number of sticks and machetes and youths who were making an advance towards the riot policemen.
Meanwhile,soldiers have taken over the area and have since dispersed the waring factions in a bid to restore normalcy in the area.
The dead bodies from the clash were conveyed in military van to a hospital in Lafia.
