Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has indicated interest to become the next President of the Nigeria Football Federation.
This is coming after Alhaji Aminu Maigari was sacked from office last week as the president of the NFF.
Kalu’s words: “If I am given the opportunity to run Nigerian football, I will do so with every passion I attach to the game.
“I would want to run Nigerian football for four years and use it to set example with the quality of coach and players we will harvest.
“The crisis between the players and coaches is because we don’t have the quality of leadership at the football federation to stamp their authority.
“We need a man with reputation that would not tamper with the money meant for the players.
“If I bow to the pressure of running for the NFF president, it means I have to sacrifice a lot.
“I have to sacrifice partisan politics and my business, but if the sacrifice is the only way we can rebuild Nigerian football, I will gladly do so.
“What it means is taking a resolution that once I take up the position, I cannot contest for political positions again because I have to give my all to the job.
“I won’t want any divided attention.
“I want to concentrate fully on the job for four years, ensure we will go to the World Cup and return with either the trophy or go very far in the tournament.”
OUK, as he is fondly called by his admirers, backed Enyimba International FC of Aba to win the CAF Champions League trophy twice consecutively.
Kalu believes he possesses the qualities to take Nigerian football to the next level.
The Nigeria Football Federation executive board election is billed for August 26.
