Ageless Nigerian striker, Shola Ameobi, was sent off as Newcastle United’s Premier League season ended in their 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Newcastle were reduced to 10 men after Ameobi was shown two quick fire yellow cards.
Any hopes of a comeback were severely damaged by Ameobi’s dismissal and the five minutes cameo from Dummett didn’t help either.
Goals from Daniel Agger and Daniel Sturridge were enough for Brendan Rodgers’ side to do their part over the visitors.
It all started promisingly for Newcastle though, as they took the lead after 20 minutes, thanks to Martin Skrtel’s own goal.
The Slovakian defender made a mess of clearing Yoan Gouffran’s cross and looped his effort over Simon Mignolet to give the travelling Toon Army hope of ending their season on a high.
But in typical Newcastle fashion, a complete self destruction was to follow as Agger and Sturridge struck before Ameobi was sent off for abusing referee Phil Dowd – hardly the way he wanted to end his Magpies career.
Newcastle ended with nine men as substitute Paul Dummett was sent off for a professional foul on Luis Suarez.
