The Yobe State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, on Friday threatened to return the N150 million assistance given to the state by the Federal Government.
The governor issued the threat in Damaturu, the state capital, while swearing in chairmen of the local government council caretaker committees.
Gaidam said that although the state government had spent N7 billion on security in the last three years, the Federal Government assisted it with only N150 million.
He said the assistance given was grossly inadequate, adding, “I am looking forward to meeting Mr. President on this matter because we have suffered so much neglect.”
The governor also said that the North-East sub-region had the least Federal Government’s projects in the country.
“We receive poor power supply from PHCN and the Kano-Maiduguri dual carriage, which is under construction, is neglected due to non-release of fund,” Gaidam said.
The governor assured the people of the state that council elections would be conducted as soon as structures of the newly registered All Progressives Congress were put on ground.
He said: “You will appreciate that the defunct ruling party, the ANPP (All Nigeria Peoples Party), merged with other political parties to form APC.
“So, we will conduct the election as soon as structures of the new party are put on ground.”
The governor urged the chairmen to judiciously use the councils’ funds in areas of public interest.
“You should involve stakeholders on issues affecting your respective local government council” he advised.
