The Torch of Unity for the forthcoming National Sports festival, tagged: “Edo 2020,” was on Tuesday received by the Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, at the Government House, Minna.
Represented by his Deputy, Ahmed Ketso, Bello assured that the government would ensure its participation and would come out victorious at the festival.
The Governor, while receiving the team from the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development during its enlightenment and sensitization, appealed to all Nigerians to work hard in ensuring the sustenance of the unity of Nigeria nation to enhance development.
He said: “I see this torch as a symbol of national unity because it signifies the indivisibility of Nigeria as a country.”
The Unity Torch procession from Mobil Roundabout to Government House was led by the Zonal Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Sports, Saka Akeem, and Niger State Commissioner of Sports Development, Emmanuel Umar.
In his remarks, Umar said the road walk was aimed at the enlightenment of the public on the Festival, just as the state was prepared for the event and will take part in all sports.
He revealed that Bello has approved all their demands, hence they wouldn’t be stranded, while promising medals during the competition.
Meanwhile, Niger State will compete in 17 games, with 104 athletes in the Edo 2020 Festival starting March 20.
In same vein, Akeem, disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Sports is on top of situation to ensure hitch free festival in Edo State.
