Mesut Ozil has backed Alex Iwobi to become a key player for Arsenal after his impressive start to the season.
Iwobi has started every Premier League and Champions League game for the club since returning from a hip injury and he is likely to be named in the starting line-up for Saturday’s clash against Swansea.
Ozil has been impressed with his attitude both in training and in games and he believes he will only get better if he continues on the same path.
“He knows exactly what he can do. He isn’t scared and doesn’t hide on the pitch. He just wants to have fun playing football and that really shows on the pitch, and also in training,” Ozil told Arsenal Player.
“He’s developing really well and if he continues the way he’s been playing the whole season, he will really enhance his game. The manager knows exactly how good he is and I wish him all the best. He is really young and is on a really good path.”
Iwobi is the nephew of Jay-Jay Okocha and Ozil can see plenty of his uncle’s traits in the 20-year-old.
“Alex reminds me of a mixture of (Okocha) and Edgar Davids,” the Germany international said. “He’s really strong on the ball, also defensively, but he’s good in front of goal too.”
