Kogi State is in the news again for being a fertile ground for the production of explosives.
This time around, security agents on Wednesday discovered explosives and other dangerous items hidden in the ground in a forest in Kogi State.
Among items found in the forest, which shares border with Edo State, are 22 units of Improvised Explosive Device, 13 guns, 545 rounds of live ammunition, 57 magazines, three pieces of nine-volt power source, one firing cable and four waist belts for carrying magazines.
The Kogi State Director of the State Security Service, Mike Fubura, who briefed newsmen on Wednesday in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, said a black Pathfinder Sports Utility Vehicle, with registration number Lagos LF 98 AAA, was also found in the forest.
Fubura said the operation that led to the recovery of the items, in the Okene area of the state, was carried out by a combined team of the SSS, Army, Navy, Airforce and the Police.
He disclosed that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the discovery, adding that it was a major breakthrough in the fight against crime.
