The Arewa Alliance, a socio-political group, has called on Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to declare his interest to run for president of Nigeria in 2023.
The convener of the group, Dauda Khushi, made the appeal Tuesday at a news conference Tuesday in Yola, Adamawa State capital, saying that the country requires a leader like Emefiele who understands the country and has knowledge of ethnicity, among others, for a united entity.
The group wants Emefiele to declare his intention to run for presidency so as to enable the its members contribute in securing him his nomination form.
Kushu noted that it was during Emefiele’s tenure that Nigeria enhanced its non-oil exports, boosted domestic output and increased agricultural productivity, among many other achievements.
He said his modest achievements enabled young Nigerians to play active role in the agro-business value chain as a result of CBN’s multi-sectorial interventions.
“CBN has produced over 12 million employments in Agriculture through the Anchor Borrowers programme (ABP) and the figure is growing exponentially.
“Emefiele’s successes in implementing the National Youth Investment Fund (NYIF), which saw the CBN distribute N3 billion to over 7,057 beneficiaries, including 4,411 individuals, 2,646 small and medium sized enterprises,” he said.
Kushu added Emefiele exhibited all of the qualities that make a strong leader and he is a reliable and devoted supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He added that his initiatives have touched the lives of ordinary citizens in the grassroots.
