Members of Ebonyi State Executive Council on Thursday sponsored the purchase of Peoples Democratic Party Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms for Governor David Umahi.
Presenting the forms worth over N20m to the Governor at the Government House, Abakaliki, the State Executive Council’s spokesman and Deputy Governor, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, stressed that they were motivated to offer the gesture in order to encourage Umahi sustain the tempo of superlative leadership in the State beyond 2019.
Igwe explained that the fund for the forms were sourced from individual donations by the about 80 Executive Council members as a body in conjunction with some support groups, aides and friends of the Governor under free, unanimous decision.
Igwe explained: “The Attorney-General approached me and said: we have analyzed his works in Ebonyi, we have done individual and collective assessments of his performance in the last three and half years.
“We have also pictured all the promises he made during his campaign and tried to match them side by side with his deliveries and we came to conclusion as Executive Council members that this Governor is one Governor that has over-performed
“And he said to me that without my knowledge as the Deputy Governor, that the Executive Council members have all met and decided to pick a Nomination Form for our Governor…”
Describing Umahi as one of the pillars that has kept democracy and the PDP strong in Nigeria, Igwe added that the decision of the Executive Council and the other contributors to the project buttresses the fact of the general acceptability of the Governor for continuity in the state come 2019.
Receiving the forms, Umahi, who was visibly elated, appreciated the entire people of Ebonyi State for their great show of love and appreciation over his modest achievements.
He commended his teeming supporters for their abiding faith in him, prayers and goodwill, which has remained a great source of encouragement and inspiration.
Expressing optimism that he would emerge victorious going by the level of support given to him by the people, placing him ahead of other aspirants, he pledged to continuously and geometrically increase the tempo of development across the State.
While pledging general expansion of Infrastructure in the State, he stated that he proposed to construct over 10 additional flyovers at vulnerable points across the state before the expiration of his first and second tenures in office.
Umahi finally strengthened his vow to hand over power to the Abakaliki block (Ebonyi North zone) by 2023 in line with the State’s Charter of Equity.
The forms had earlier in the day been purchased by the Council members led by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Cletus Ofoke, amidst pomp and great display of solidarity.
