Nigeria’s senior women team, D’Tigress, has qualified for the final of the ongoing Afrobasket Women Championship in Bamako, Mali.
The Sam Vincent girls edged out hosts, Mali, by 48-47 points in an highly tensed quarterfinal tie.
Nigeria led the first two quarters by 10-7, 13-5, but allowed the homers to fight back as they coasted to 15-16 and 8-16 in the third and fourth quarters of the game.
With this win, the Nigerian girls have secured their place in next year’s World Championship in Spain.
They are awaiting the outcome of the other semifinal match between Senegal and Mozambique to know their opponent in the final game.
The match was ongoing as at press time.
D’Tigress had beaten both Senegal and Mozambique in their group stage matches.
