The fury of home fans led to players of Rangers International Football Club of Enugu sneaking out of the stadium under heavy security on Thursday.
The fans were infuriated after the hosts drew goalless with visiting MFM FC of Lagos in a rescheduled 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League fixture.
The 0-0 draw meant Rangers have made it three barren draws at a stretch in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that it had all started with the draw against Kwara United in Enugu, followed by another draw with FC IfeanyiUbah in Nnewi.
Rangers forced the visitors to their own half for most moments, but MFM FC were always a threat on the counter.
Sikiru Olatunbosun even put the ball into the back of the net in the 67th minute to stun the home side, but the referee judged his effort to be offside.
Speaking after the match, MFM FC’s Technical Adviser, Fidelis Ilechukwu, said his team won the game both off and inside the field of play.
Ilechukwu said: “We won but the three points were not awarded to us. But that it is not what the league ought to be.’’
Speaking on Olatunbosun’s performance, the coach said “he is MFM FC’s Messi’’ as he had been getting the points and goals for the team.
He added: “If you remove Lionel Messi from FC Barcelona, the team is not complete. So, that is what we expect from him in spite of the fact that he is just coming back from injury.’’
