The Kwara State Governor, Dr. AbdulFatah Ahmed, says as the 2015 general elections approach, the people of the state must shun tendencies that could cause violence.
Ahmed described people who promote violence as “enemies of progress and must be shunned by all right thinking people of Kwara State and others who crave good governance”.
According to Governor Ahmed: “Only those who are afraid to test their popularity in a free and fair election and are therefore frightened of defeat sponsor thuggery and other forms of violence.”
Ahmed, who said this at the flag off of the 17-kilometre Arobadi-Megida Road project in Moro Local Government Area of the state, estimated to cost about N911 million, also warned those who may want to cause trouble, instigate violence or import thuggery into the state under any guise that “the people of Kwara reject them now and will reject them at the polls in 2015”.
Speaking on road projects, Ahmed said road construction and rehabilitation were key components of his administration’s strategic infrastructure development programme under
the Shared Prosperity Initiative.
The governor noted that despite the challenging economic times in the country his administration’s development initiatives will not be halted, adding that road projects such as Oke-Oyi-Lanwa, Alapa-Malete, Shao-Jebba and Oloru Township roads in Moro Local
Government Area would be constructed in due course.
The governor, during a town hall meeting, assured the people of Moro Local Government Area that apart from six communities that benefitted from allocation of transformers and 15 communities where boreholes were to be sunk, that more would benefit from such facilities in the days ahead.
The Chairman of Moro Local Government Area, Abdulganiyu Mohammed, underscored the significance of the construction of the Arobadi-Megida Road to the local government, stressing that only Ipaye District that the road falls has no tarred roads in all the five districts in the local government area.
