Despite clinching the ticket under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Senator elect for Niger East senatorial zone, Dr Shem Zagbayi Nuhu has been told by the party’s Chairman Alhaji Abdulrahaman Enagi that there will be no automatic ticket for him come 2015 as he has to go through the party’s primaries if other party men show interest in the position.
State Chairman of the party Alhaji Abdulrahaman Enagi dropped the news in Minna when he addressed journalists on the just concluded senatorial bye-election for Niger East Senatorial zone of the state.
Enagi in answer to a question declared that ‘there will be no automatic ticket for Dr Shem Zagbayi Nuhu if more people come out, we will go for primaries’.
The party boss admonished all politicians in the country to always respect the rule of law saying that ‘as politicians our ability to respect the rule of law will go a long way in making sure that it is only the people that decide who govern them’.
‘Since Nigerlites have spoken through the ballot box it is our duty as democrats to respect their decision’ he declared before asking the defeated APC candidate and the party as a whole in the state to accept the verdict of the election in the spirit of sportsmanship so that together we can forge ahead in be quitting to generations yet unborn a Niger state that they shall all be proud of’.
‘As the state PDP chairman whose party won the election I wish to assure Nigerlites that the confidence reposed on us will be adequately justified in the course of discharging our constitutional responsibilities’.
‘He continued that ‘we are all victorious in establishing democratic culture in our land and I hope other contestants will take it as such’.
Alhaji Enagi appreciated the security agencies involved in the election ‘for doing a marvellous job’ and the media for portraying the polls in good light which he said has contributed to the success recorded in the two elections.
