2015: Delta ex-acting governor declares intention to contest

A former acting Governor of Delta State, Sam Obi, has signified his interest to contest the gubernatorial election in the state in 2015.
Obi, a member of the state House of Assembly (PDP-Ika North East), disclosed his intention in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Asaba.
The lawmaker promised to transform the state and consolidate on the achievements and progress made by the incumbent Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, in the last seven years.
Obi also promised to give priority to viable sectors of the economy that would boost the revenue of the state.
He said: “If elected at the party primary and finally voted to power in 2015, my government will invest in viable sectors of the economy that will make the financial status of the state buoyant.
“I must say that Uduaghan has done a lot to improve on the wellbeing of the people of Delta and there is still more to be done in the state.”
On his chances at the state PDP primary, Obi said he stands a chance based on his past records and experience as the acting governor of the state in 2011 when the court removed Uduaghan.
He added: “Coming to contest election is not just a child’s play, but it is something that has to do with destiny.
“In 2011, when I became the acting governor of the state, I never campaigned or contested election but because it was designed by God.
“He brought me in and in 2015 that same God has not changed.
“God that gave me the opportunity to be governor for two months without campaigning or contesting for any election, that same God is still alive.
“And I will do my best and leave the rest to God, believing that Deltans will look into my past records and elect me as governor of the state come 2015.”
