Eleven members of the J’amatul Izalatul Bidia Wo Ikamati Sunnah from Kebbi State lost their lives in a ghastly auto crash along the Suleja-Minna Expressway in Niger State on their way back home after attending an education appeal fund programme in Abuja on Sunday afternoon.
The Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Suleja, Edwin Nwokike, told journalists on Monday that the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus conveying members of JIBWIS from Abuja to Zuru in Kebbi State and a Volkswagen Gulf car coming from Minna to Suleja.
According to Nwokike: “The two vehicles were over speeding and had head on collision while trying to avoid potholes.”
Nwokike said the accident occurred at about 2:20pm while the rescue team of the FRSC got to the scene of the accident at about 2:25pm.
He said the driver of the Gulf car was alone and died on the spot.
Nine passengers in the Toyota bus also died on the spot.
One other died after reaching the hospital while nine sustained injuries.
The Unit commander said eight out of the nine injured passengers have been treated and discharged while one is still receiving treatment at the hospital.
