Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Prof. Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye, is dead.
Adefuye, according to credible Nigerian online news websites based in the United States of America, died on Thursday.
Among those reporting the death of the Professor of History are SaharaReporters, Huhuonline and TheWill.
He was said to have died in a Washington DC hospital in the US where he had gone for a routine check up.
Adefuye was appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan as Nigeria’s ambassador to the US in 2010.
He hailed from Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State.
Born in 1947, he studied at the University of Ibadan, where he earned his first degree in 1969 as well as a PhD in History in 1973.
Prior to his appointment to Nigeria’s Embassy in Washington, DC, Adefuye served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Jamaica (where he was concurrently accredited to Haiti and Belize) from 1987 to 1991.
In 1991, he was appointed Nigeria’s Deputy High Commissioner in the UK.
When President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in, he recalled Adefuye to Nigeria.
Adefuye was yet to be told his new role in the government and another Ambassador yet to be appointed to the US until his death.
