The Ekiti State Police Command will deploy 6,000 personnel and 100 patrol vehicles for Saturday’s presidential election in Ekiti state.
The Commissioner of Police in the command, Taiwo Lakanu, disclosed this at a press conference in Ado Ekiti on Friday.
Lakanu, who spoke on the preparation of the command for the election, also warned political parties and their aspirants to eschew violence and embrace peace.
He said the command had put all machinery in place to ensure a hitch-free poll.
He added: “The command will not hesitate to deal decisively to the full extent of the law with any person (s) who conduct himself/herself in any manner inimical to the peaceful conduct of the elections.
“Also, movement and distribution of money or inducement in whatever form from one polling booth to the other is forbidden.”
Lakanu, who recalled measures initiated by the command to ensuring a hitch-free poll, said the command had also held several interactive meetings with relevant stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission, politicians and political parties to ensure hitch-free poll.
“Aside this, we have identified flash points in the state and mapped out security measures to ward off the identified threats,” Lakanu said.
Warning against flouting police order on restriction of movement, the CP said the restriction would last between 6am and 6pm on Saturday except those on essential duties.
