Former Deputy Governor of old Ondo State and ex-governorship candidate of the United Nigeria Peoples Party in Ekiti State, Alhaji Musa Adebayo Ayeni, has defected to the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria.
Ayeni, who formally declared for the ACN at a rally in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, said he joined the ruling party because of the quality leadership offered by the Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led administration in the last 15 months.
The former deputy governor said the ACN government programmes like the social security for the aged showed the traits of Awoism, which the average Yoruba should embrace, urging the entire people of Ekiti State to joins hands with Fayemi to take the state to the next level.
Ayeni noted that the Fayemi government has etched its name in the record books by being the first government in Nigeria to give monthly stipends to old people, which he said has reduced poverty and neglect being suffered by the aged.
Describing the ACN as the fastest growing party in the country, Ayeni said he was not surprised that the party is gaining popularity in states like Kaduna, Kano, Kogi and others states in the South East and South South.
Apart from supporters of Ayeni who defected to the AC N, members of the Peoples Democratic Party dropped their umbrella for the broom.
PDP members who defected to the ACN included former Vice-Chairman of Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area, Princess Adenike Ajayi, Mrs. Folake Ojojolu, a PDP woman leader in in Ado-Ekiti Ward 9, and their supporters.
The defectors were all welcomed by the state ACN Chairman, Chief Olajide Awe, who assured them of a level playing field in the party.
Also welcoming the new ACN members, Fayemi said the testimonies of the new members reflect the commitment of the party to better the lots of the people of the state.
Fayemi also predicted that the party will record a landslide victory in the Saturday’s local government election because of the people’s confidence in the ability to deliver dividends of democracy.
