Luck on Tuesday ran against a gang of armed robbers that struck along Benin/Asaba Expressway.
A member of the group, one Junior Ocheonye, 20-year-old boy, was shot and arrest by the Dragon Patrol Team 03.
Others however jumped into the bush, abandoning their weapons.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, in Asaba on Tuesday at the command headquarters said the gang was robbing, at gunpoint at popular JOC Filling Station in Umunede, Ika South Local Government Area of the state before police pounced on them.
Kalu said: “The hoodlums, on sighting our men opened fire on them, and in the ensuing gun duel one of the criminals identified as Junior Ocheonye ‘m’, 20 years, was shot and arrested while others escaped into the bush.”
Kalu listed the items recovered from them to include one locally made double barrel pistol with a live cartridge, one Tecno D5 Android phone without battery, one Nokia Navigator Symbian phone, a bag containing two wallets with $1 and one suspected fake N1,000 note.
The PPRO recalled the incidence that occurred in Agbor where a team of policemen on patrol in conjunction with vigilante raided a criminal hideout in Emuhu locality of the town.
“On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums took to their heels abandoning two (2) cut-to-size single barrel guns with a live cartridge,” Kalu said.
While she said effort is on to apprehend the fleeing suspects, she narrated how the police patrol team attached to ‘A’ Division Warri, stumbled on a cult group.
“While on township patrol along Okpe Street off Iyara road in Warri, ran into group of suspected cultists. On sighting the policemen, the suspected cultists took to their heels and abandoned one black bag containing one locally made pistol gun, two daggers, mask-cap and one torchlight and escaped to unknown destination,” Kalu said.
Also, she said the police patrol team attached to Aboh Division while on patrol at Setraco Junction, Ashaka/Aboh Road, arrested two Fulani herdsmen, one Usman Hallin and Idih Adamu.
The suspects were riding on a blue Qlink motorcycle with Registration number NSK 136 QB.
“The suspects were in possession of two AK47 rifle magazines, containing 30 rounds of live ammunitions each.”
Meanwhile, the suspects are undergoing investigation.
