The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, maintained his lead in the presidential election conducted over the weekend in Nigeria.
On Tuesday, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, announced the results from more states in the federation.
As at the wee hours of Tuesday when Jega took a break from announcing the results, Buhari was still leading his main challenger and the incumbent, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
From the results of 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Buhari won in 10, while Jonathan took eight and the FCT.
Buhari also opened a lead of over two million votes against Jonathan.
On Tuesday morning after an initial disruption of the announcement by a former Minister, Godsday Orubebe of the Peoples Democratic Party, Jega announced the results from Ebonyi, Niger, Lagos, Bayelsa, Gombe, Cross River and Rivers States.
While Jonathan won in Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers States, Buhari took Niger, Lagos and Gombe States.
As at when Jega announced a 30 minutes break, Buhari was still leading by close to two million votes.
