Youth leader faults roles played by youths in crises

The President of the Nigeria Youth Congress, Dr. Yakubu Shendam, has called on youths in the country to embrace peace and shun violence for the overall development of the country.
Shendam stated this pver weekend in a chat with newsmen in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
He said: “Most of the crises in the country are  perpetrated by the youths.”
“Youths constitute the largest in the country.
“They play very important role in the progress of the country and are mostly affected when there is  crisis as they are brainwashed into carrying arms to perpetrate violence against their country in the name of religion and ethnicity, forgetting that they are future leaders.”
Shendam called on the youths to support the Federal Government’s fight against Insecurity, saying the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Yusuf Buratai, has done well in encouraging troops in ensuring that the Nigerian Army defeats Boko Haram and peace is restored in the North East.”
He added: “You can see that the  efforts in the North East has really paid off as the incessant bombing of market places and different places of worships and population areas has virtually stopped now.
“We have never seen a Chief of Army staff, who would abandon the comfort of his office in Abuja and relocate to meet military troops in the North East in order to ensure that lasting peace is restored in the country.
“We call on youths to give him the moral support in order to ensure that insecurity is totally tackled and lasting peace is restored in the country.”
Shendam also called on the Federal Government to make polices that would gainfully engage youths and reduce the increasing rate of unemployment in the country.
He said: “Government should create jobs for the youths as many of them are frustrated.”
Shendam also called on youths of Plateau State to support the newly posted Commander of Operation Safe Haven deployed to restore law and order in Plateau State, Major General Nicholas Rogers, in order to promote peace and allow development and progress to thrive.
“I am appealing to youths in Plateau to continue to tolerate each other inorder to sustain the peace currently being enjoyed in the state,” he added.
