Yero decries prevalence of rape cases in Kaduna State

Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State on Thursday expressed concern over the prevalence of rape cases against children and women in Kaduna State.
Yero made the remark while receiving members of the state branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers.
The governor, who stressed the importance of protecting women and children against abuse and maltreatment, urged the association and other stakeholders to protect them from abuse.
The governor also urged female lawyers to ensure the prosecution of suspects to address the menace and restore dignity of women in the society.
Yero also called on stakeholders to take child rights seriously, stressing that a child well-protected and properly groomed would turn out to be great and useful to the society.
He assured the association that the state government would continue to partner with it to ensure justice and fairness and to address the challenges facing women and children.
Earlier, the Chairperson of the association in the state, Sidikat Adeboye, said the association was established to protect the rights and uplift the status of women and children.
Adeboye said the association was committed to addressing the plight of women and protecting children from molestation, sexual abuse and rape.
