The Deputy Governor of Edo, Philip Shaibu, has expressed satisfaction with the facilities at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, ahead of the U-20 female World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Tanzania.
Shaibu made the remark on Tuesday during an inspection of the facilities at the stadium.
He said the state was ready to play host to Saturday’s match, going by the state of facilities at the stadium.
Shaibu said though some things still needed to be put in place before the match, what was on ground was enough to host any FIFA-graded match.
The deputy governor who inspected the pitch, dressing rooms, toilets and other facilities at the stadium, stated that the state would do everything possible to be a good host.
He said: “We have actually done well in terms of preparation with what I am seeing here. You can see that the grass is alive once again, so also are other facilities at the stadium.
“In spite of this, however, we still need to put some things in order for us to be a perfect host.
“We are doing this to have the opportunity of being granted hosting rights in other FIFA-graded matches in the immediate future.
“It is not just about the players and officials having good facilities. We also want our people or football fans to conduct themselves well before, during and after the game.
“We shouldn’t just be hosting, we need to also support. This match will boost our chances of hosting more matches and other sporting activities.”
On whether the gates would be thrown open to fans on Saturday, Shaibu said it was not a decision for the state to make but that of the NFF.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Falconets are expected to arrive the ancient city on Tuesday for the match, while their opponents would arrive on Wednesday.
