Woman arraigned for killing her mother

A 30-year-old woman, Elina Shada, was on Friday arraigned before a Jalingo, Taraba State Magistrates’ Court for allegedly killing her mother, Lidia Shada.
Magistrate Habiba Barde ordered the accused to be remanded in prison, pending the release of a legal advice from the Ministry of Justice, Jalingo.
Barde said that she was only holding charge for the state high court, as a magistrate court was not competent to entertain cases relating capital offences.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Musa James, said that Shada was charged with culpable homicide, an offence which contravened Section 211 of the Penal Code.
James said that on September 30, Shada gave her mother several machete cuts at a farm in Takum area, killing her instantly.
James, however, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable the police to solicit legal advice on the case from the state’s Director of Public Prosecution.
The magistrate adjourned the case to December 17 for further hearing.
