The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has revealed that the agency has not been able to release the report of Bellview Airline crash in 2005. It said it was due to the stealing of the black box by the locals in the area.
Bellview Airlines Limited flight 210 crashed at Lisa village in Ogun State on October 22, 2005, killing 117 persons on board.
Speaking before Senate Public Accounts Committee (SPAC) chaired by Senator Matthew Urhoghide, Executive Officer of the AIB, Akin Olateru, explained that the report of Bellview crash in 2005 cannot be released because the black box was stolen by the locals before getting to the site.
He said that crash site has always been a looting site. “Before the site is located, many things would have been stolen. That is why AIB has decided to train some police officers on this incident.”
Olateru said, “When I came on board, IGP gave us some police officers, we have to train them on accident Investigation.
“Crash site is a looting site any time. Any time there is plane crash, you see people looting. IGP agreed to release some police officers to us so that we can train them.
“In 2005, the black box of the Bellview aircraft was stolen.”
