Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has attributed the ability of the State Government to pay workers’ salaries regularly to financial prudence and priority.
The governor made this known when he was responding to remarks by the Rector of the Institute of Management and Technology, Nsukka, Prof. Austin Nweze.
The rector paid a courtesy visit to the governor in Enugu on Thursday.
Ugwuanyi said the salaries and entitlements of civil servants and other workers in the state had continued to run regularly amid recession.
Ugwuanyi said: “Personally, I will attribute this feat to the grace of God and the ability of my administration to prudently manage the state’s lean resource.”
He said that priority was given to payment of salaries and entitlements of workers before any other consideration in the state’s financial obligations.
Earlier, Nweze commended Ugwuanyi for his remarkable and focused leadership.
He said that his visionary leadership had resulted in the state’s emergence as one of the three states in the country that paid workers’ salaries regularly.
It would be recalled that a recent report listed Enugu, Lagos and Rivers as the only states in the federation still able to meet their recurrent needs including payment of salaries.
