Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has explained that the presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party scheduled to hold in the state on Wednesday was postponed due to official engagement of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Mimiko, who spoke through the Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, said Jonathan rescheduled his campaign in Ondo State not for political reasons but to attend to other important national issues.
According to him, Jonathan had a crucial meeting with some world leaders in Abuja, including former Secretary General of the United Nations, Dr. Kofi Annan.
The PDP had initially scheduled its presidential campaign in Ondo State forWednesday but cancelled it less than 24 hours to the programme.
It was alluded that the campaign was postponed because of the defection of some key PDP members to the All Progressives Congress.
One of those who led the defection was Femi Agagu, a former Chief of Staff in the Ondo State Government and brother to a former Governor of the state, late Dr. Olusegun Agagu,
Mimiko, who is also the South West Co-Ordinator of the Jonathan Campaign Organisation, hinted that a new date would soon be announced for the campaign in the state.
He ruled out politics from the postponement and urged admirers of Jonathan and members of the PDP in the state to remain steadfast.
The governor also promised that the people of the state would support Jonathan’s second term ambition.
He equally said the people of Ondo State are solidly behind the Jonathan administration.
