The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed newspaper reports that the Chairman of Oyo State Tipper, Lorry and Quarry Park Management System, Alhaji Akeem Akintola, was kidnapped on Saturday.
The spokesman of the Command, Adewale Osifeso, said Akintola was not kidnapped by gunmen, but arrested.
Osifeso, a Superintendent of Police, asserted that the police arrested Akintola over allegations of criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.
Mainstream and social media reports had stated that gunmen kidnapped Akintola, popularly known as Kuso, from his residence in Ibadan, the state capital, on Saturday.
Osifeso said: “Police wish to clear the air on events surrounding the alleged abduction of one Alhaji Akeem Akintola and another person, Segun (surname yet unknown) both members of the Oyo State Park Management System.

“The duo was invited by intelligence operatives from Force Headquarters, Abuja who were on lawful duty in connection with their alleged involvement in criminal offences.
“The allegations include criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.”
Osifeso added that the matter was under investigation and that updates would be made public.
