The alumni of the Central State University, Edmond Oklahoma, United States of America (Nigeria Chapter) has urged the Ekiti State Government to immortalise the late Deputy Governor, Funmilayo Olayinka, with the establishment of a Cancer Research and Treatment Centre in her name.
The late deputy governor was a post graduate student of the university in 1983.
In a statement issued on its behalf by Rt. Hon. Femi Akinyemi; the Alumni Association said the deputy governor will be happy wherever she is if people are being cured of the deadly decease in a centre established in her honour.
The statement reads: “Once again, we commiserate with the Ekiti State Government and the entire people of the state over this painful loss and we hope that her death will be a form of succour to other cancer patients.
“No doubt, the death of Mrs. Olayinka, a distinguish alumnus of Central State University, Edmond Oklahoma, United States of America is painful and a great loss to the entire people of Ekiti State and, especially to us, her school mates, who continue to cherish her love and affection, and we pray for the repose of her soul.
“However, as we continue to mourn her, the government of Ekiti State must also have it in mind that immortalising the late deputy governor in a way that will assist in waging the war against cancer is the best honour that can be done to her.
“We therefore urge the government to establish a centre in Ekiti State where research into the deadly ailment as well as treatment of those suffering from it can be carried out.
“Once again, may her amiable soul rest in perfect peace.”
